What is a Brightener?
A Brightener is a substance that will help brighten a tooth. There are many different types of brighteners, and some of them are quite expensive. A brightener has a brightening effect when applied to the tooth surface. It does not change the color of the tooth, or make the tooth white. It simply brightens the tooth surface to make the surface shine.
The brightener may or may not have fluoride in it. It is not necessary for the brightener to have fluoride to be effective. The brightener can also have other ingredients in it that improve the teeth' appearance. Many brighteners that are recommended for tooth brightening are available at a drugstore and at your local health food store. A variety of brighteners are available. It is not necessary to use all of them. I am not aware of any studies that indicate that only one of the brighteners or combinations of brighteners will help. If you are concerned that the brightener might contain fluoride, then you should also look for other additives that may be present in the brightener. For example, some brands of fluoride whiteners also contain a whitening agent. This whitening agent can reduce the amount of fluoride in the blood. The tooth whitening agent that is often used is a fluoride-containing fluoride whitener.
